Our frequently asked questions
Who is responsible for health and safety on a shared worksite?
Each business must manage the risks arising from its own work. Where duties overlap, the businesses must consult, cooperate and coordinate rather than assuming another party has taken responsibility.
Does a small business need health and safety documents?
Yes. The documents needed depend on the work, risks and arrangements in place. Clear documents can help explain responsibilities, risk management processes and the way workers are expected to raise and address health and safety matters.
What counts as a notifiable event?
A notifiable event can include a work-related death, a serious injury or illness requiring immediate hospital admission, or a serious near miss where someone was exposed to an immediate or imminent risk of serious harm.
If you’re unsure whether an event meets the threshold, call our advice line and we can help you work through what happened and whether WorkSafe needs to be notified.
Do you visit our Auckland site?
Yes. We’ll usually start with a free phone call to understand your business and what support you may need. Our H&S Consulting Service can then include an initial workplace visit, with additional paid support available when needed.
Between visits, our New Zealand-based 24/7 H&S Advice Line is available by phone or online for day-to-day questions and ongoing support.
Are you located in Auckland?
Yes. Our Auckland office supports businesses throughout Auckland with practical health and safety advice. You’ll speak with New Zealand-based H&S advisers who work with New Zealand health and safety requirements every day.
